Log Insight – Upgrade 3.6 to 4.0

Today I’m going to upgrade my 3 node Log Insight environment from 3.6 to 4.0. Here are the steps:

1. Go to VMware.com and download the upgrade package:

   

2. Log into your Log Insight 3.6 environment and choose the menu option in the upper right corner and select Administration:

   

3. Select “Cluster” and click the “Upgrade Cluster” button:

   

4. *IF* you are going to your VIP (assuming you have ILB turned on), Log Insight will barf at this point and redirect you to the master node, click “Redirect” to proceed:

   

5. Select the file from your download location and click “Upgrade”:

   

6. The PAK file will upload
7. Accept the EULA:

   

8. Wait patiently J (the hardest part for me!)

   

9. When (if?) the master node successfully upgrades, you will get the following notification:

   

10. If you go back to the Cluster Management Page you can watch the other nodes as they progress:

    

That’s it, much easier than in previous iterations.  Up next how to install Content Packs & create new agent groups.
